Mamezara collection of Hasami porcelain
Hasami porcelain has 400 years’ history. Hasami is one of the porcelain production places in Nagasaki prefecture in Japan.
Hasami porcelain is famous for its beautiful white porcelain and detailed paint with Gosu (deep blue glaze). Also, elegant openwork and meshwork make Hasami porcelain special.
The craftsman of Hasami porcelain uses Amakusa porcelain cray for crafts. Amakusa porcelain cray will change into hard and white porcelain when it is fired.
This mamezara collection have various forms; gourd, peach, dandelion, and more.
Skilled craftsmen in Hasami paint traditional pattern to each dish.
Mamezara of Azmaya
Azmaya is a Japanese modern goods and tableware brand. They visit crafts producing areas in Japan, and offer beautiful and polished dishes or miscellaneous goods. Azmaya was established in 1997. They state their concept as “products that customers can use and love for a long time, and crafts that do not compromise their technology and material.”
Here, let us introduce inban-mamezara and dobai-mamezara from Azmaya.
Inban is one of the printing skill from paper to porcelain. Craftsman wet the patterned “tensha-gami” (printing paper), and put it on to the unglazed pottery to print pattern. Since craftsman put and print one by one, all plates have each own face. That is one of the pleasant thing of handmade product.
Dobai-mamezara is more simple plate than Inban-mamezara. Instead of traditional pattern print on inban-mamezara, dobai-mamezara is glazed by unbleached white glaze. This simple tiny plates can fit to various kind of food as you like with their soft color.
Inban-mamezara and dobai-mamezara are both simple and soft design. The Arita porcelain of 1616/arita japan, is like modern and urbane lady. Compared with it, Azmaya offers tableware like well-bred and elegant lady.
The designs and forms of mamezara
As we introduced before, Azmaya offers two types of mamezara, inban-mamezara and dobai-mamezara. Both types have seven different forms. Peach, plum, sunflower, dandelion, mokkou (Japanese traditional crest), fan, and gourd.
