What are the auspicious meanings of Japanese traditional patterns?

Today, we would like to introduce the meaning of "Ume (plum) & Hyoutan (gourd)."

The 3 products have the motif of Ume and Hyoutan.

So, these patterns are all auspicious and familiar patterns for Japanese people.

The meaning of "Ume"

Ume or plum blooms earlier than any other flowers in early spring. It endures the harsh cold of winter, and blooms beautiful and aromatic flowers.

Ume tells us the coming of spring.

Ume is famous for one of the components of "Sho Chiku Bai."

Sho Chiku Bai means Matsu (pine tree) + Take (bamboo) + Ume (plum). Matsu and Take keep their green through the years. And, Ume blooms flowers earlier than other flowers. So, these three have the meaning of "withstand adversity and success at last."

Ume is a symbol of "patience", "faithfulness", or "noble."

Also, Ume has prayer for a safe birth.

So, Ume is a noble, vigorous, and beautiful pattern.

"I wish you two can overcome adversity and bloom flowers."

"I wish you a safe birth."

With those wishes, how about sending wedding gifts or early celebration of a birth?

The meaning of Hyoutan

Hyoutan, or gourd has been a familiar plants for human beings.

When a man bring water, or contain the seeds of plants, gourd have been very useful.

As a pattern, Hyoutan has many meanings.

First, gourd has the meaning of "prosperity of posterity".

A gourd produces a lot of seeds.

Also, the vines of the gourd entangle in branches of trees, and bear a lot of fruits. So, the strength of gourd becomes the symbol of good business.

In addition, the unique form of gourd is believed to absorb evils and not let them out. So, Hyoutan has the meaning of "talisman."

Especially, 6 gourds have the meaning of "a perfect state of health."

In Japanese, 6 gourds are called "Mubyou," and "Mubyou" means "no sickness."

Hyoutan is a rare pattern which has such a lot of auspicious meanings.

You can send Hyoutan motif items for wedding gifts, celebration of recovery, or celebration of an opening of new store.

These are a part of Japanese traditional auspicious patterns.

Japan has a lot of wonderful patterns.
